When Preparing for a Family-Teacher Conference

The child has made the most progress in the following areas: Your child has made the most inprovment in communicating with the teacher and all the children in his class. He is using great communication, nice words and lots of manner words. He also has been doing a great job at following the direction that are given to him from the teacher. Your child is starting to play well with the other children in the classroom.

The activity the child enjoys the most is: The activity your child like the most is when we sit down and play with playdough. Your child makes all different kinds of shapes, letters, and numbers. We use cookie cutters as another tool with the playdough. He also likes it when we turm on children songs and interact with the motions.

The child is most excited and attentive when: The child is most excited and attentive when we are reading books about the ABC's, colors, and shapes.

The best form of redirection for this child is: the best way I have found to redirect your child is to move him off to the side and give him a book or toy. Then when he calms down and is all collected he returns and joins right in.

One objective the family could work on at home with this child is: The one thing I would say to work at home is slowing down and sounded out the words he trying to put in a sentence to tell the teacher. Also if you can help the teacher in helping your child right out his name. I can help you by printing off sheets that your child can trace.

Visual learners learn the best way with picture and reading the material themselves. So my parents that are like that i will make a newsletter with colorful pictures and legiable words so that the parents can read it. If they have any questions I will go over it with.

Audiable learners learn best by listening to someone. For my parents like this i will make a newsletter that i will read outloud to the parents and go over very important information. At the end we will a few minutes for the parents to ask questions.

Kineisthic learners learn best by hands on. So therefor the parents in this catergory i will print out the newsletter and physically go over with each one of my parents.

Health Alert:

It has come to our attention that there has been a case of hand foot mouth diesease.

What is it:
Hand, foot, and mouth disease is a common viral illness that usually affects infants and children younger than 5 years old. However, it can sometimes occur in adults.

What are the symtoms of hand foot mouth disease?
Symptoms of hand, foot, and mouth disease include fever, blister-like sores in the mouth (herpangina), and a skin rash.

How is it spread?
The viruses that cause hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) can be found in an infected person’s:
  • nose and throat secretions (such as saliva, sputum, or nasal mucus),
  • blister fluid, and
  • feces (stool).
An infected person may spread the viruses that cause hand, foot, and mouth disease through:
  • close personal contact,
  • the air (through coughing or sneezing),
  • contact with feces,
  • contaminated objects and surfaces.
What can you to do to prevent it?
There is no vaccine to protect against the viruses that cause hand, foot, and mouth disease.
A person can lower their risk of being infected by
  • Washing hands often with soap and water, especially after changing diapers and using the toilet. Visit CDC’s Clean Hands Save Lives! for more information.
  • Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched surfaces and soiled items, including toys.
  • Avoiding close contact such as kissing, hugging, or sharing eating utensils or cups with people with hand, foot, and mouth disease.
If a person has mouth sores, it might be painful to swallow. However, drinking liquids is important to stay hydrated. If a person cannot swallow enough liquids, these may need to be given through an IV in their vein.

How can you treat this disease?
There is no specific treatment for hand, foot and mouth disease. However, some things can be done to relieve symptoms, such as
  • Taking over-the-counter medications to relieve pain and fever (Caution: Aspirin should not be given to children.)
  • Using mouthwashes or sprays that numb mouth pain
Persons who are concerned about their symptoms should contact their health care provider.

What are we doing to prevent this?
As a child care facility we are keeping the childrens hands washed and keeping all the toys disinfected with bleach.

TOY POLICY

Attenion partents:

It has come to our attention that we have has some issues with children bringing toys to childcare. We are making a new rule that there will be no toys brought from home. The reasons containing this rule are:

1. Putting the toys in the mouth spread germs and sickness.

2. Certain toys can be dangerous if they come with little pieces. They are considered a choking hazard.

3. Some of the toys can carry head lice such as barbie doll with hair,, stuffed animal, and babies that have hair.

So we are asking the cooperation of the parents to help us enforce this rule. As well as us teachers reminding the students and parents about the no toy from home rule.

If any question please come to me and lets talk about it.

What it looks like to dress for success:

You would have to wear a pair of nice slacks with a very nice dress shirt. over the nice shirt you ccould wear a nice sweater or jacket. Not over load the make-up just put it on lightly. It says so much to come in and see staff dressed so professional .

2. The confidentailaity code was violated for the child when his issues were discussed by the teacher and director on brake.

3. No the two directors had no right to dicuss this childs disability without the presence of his parents.

4. The person that should have been included was the childs mother.

5. The class should have been talked to by the mother and the teacher about the child disablitiy so the child would get made fun of and that they understood the reasoning behind why he is like he is.

6.Things that would have made Erics transition easier is that the teacher, mother and director went over the rules of the new school. Also that it was made clear in terms that Eric could understand that he could have his own lunch and also if they take naps if they are allowed to bring a secruity comfort from home to sleep with.

7. The conversation at the restaurant was very inappropirate. It breaks all kinds of codes of eithics. Confidentality

8. It would have been ok to have it in the staff lounge if it is pertaining to fix an issue that the child is having at school.

9. Being the director I would have a meeting talking about the righrt and wrong way to discuss situations like this one.

10.No i would not leave my child in that school if they are having confidentailty issues and not following procedures.

11.Moviing Eric could result in more problems because of other children making fun of him becaue of the disability. Also him staying here you have to worry if your family is going to be the highlight at dinner with the staff on their personal time.

If someone walks up to me and wants to have a conversation and does not use my name and it is important, it makes me feel very frustrated. Its not so bad if I am just meeting them for the first time and they dont know my name. I can let it slide. Now if I walk up to talk to a parent, the boss, or a co-worker then I get really angry and have to walk away and collect myself. Then go back to reapproach them. Also another big thing is eye contact I think it is very disrespectful when that is not in place. Now if i am getting greets with someone that complains all the time then my first step is to try to compromise with them. If they keep coming to me with the same complaints then I have decided to do a box that you can write down all your compliants. I will read them and work really hard to fix what is wrong. The third thing is if that dont work then I will have a conference time set for them to come in and sit down and we will write it all out and come up with a ageneda the will fix the complaints. I love my job in the childcare field so I will do whatever it take to keep the parents of the children in my facitly happy. The employees that work with me. This is my passion there is nothing more that i want to do but Childcare work.

Journal Entry 3

The six C’s of communication:
Positive Communication Element No. 1: Clarity
Positive Communication Element No.2: Consistency
Positive Communication Element No. 3: Caring
Negative Communication Element No. 1: Confrontation
Negative Communication Element No. 2: Conflict

Negative Communication Element No. 3: Carelessness

I have read in chapter 2 that communication skill are very important. You have to clarify what you are speaking, you have to be consistant on all your dicipline actions talking with parents and with lesson plans. The positive communication element of caring is easy. Just love on the children and be caring to parents. I have also learned that avoid confrontation and have patience on conflicts and be caring instead of being careless.

Chapter 1

I read the chapter learning how to communitcate and define the needs of my audiences. Also learning how to identify the 5 targets audiences, The message Iwanat to canvey to my audience. How to avoid the 10 most pitfalls.

Activity 1.1 (pg.2)
Family, Friends, Girlscouts, kids failies, and girlscouts families

Activity 1.2 (pg.4)

Activity 1.3 (pg,9)

1. My vision for my business is for the parents to feel safe to leave their kids at my daycare center. For the capisity to be at its highest that I can have. Also for my daycare to the best it can be.
